US State Secretary John Kerry as well as several European foreign ministers expressed support to the Turkish government amid an ongoing coup attempt, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Saturday.

ANKARA (Sputnik) – On Friday, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said that a group of servicemen attempted a military coup d'etat in the country.

"I received calls from US state secretary Kerry who expressed his support and solidarity with the lawfully elected Turkish government. I received calls from the UK prime minister and my counterparts from different countries who also stand in solidarity with us," Cavusoglu said as broadcast on the NTV television channel.
