MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Investigative Committee launched a probe after Gorlovka had come under shelling on May 26.
According to the committee, the attack was carried out by “unidentified members of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the National Guard of Ukraine,” who were “knowingly performing the criminal orders of superior officers and officials of the Ministry of Defense and the National Guard of Ukraine.”
“The investigation believes that the attackers had a goal – to destroy a group of Russian speakers living in Donbass,” Markin said.
Gorlovka has long been the hotspot for clashes between the Kiev-led forces and independence supporters of the country’s predominantly Russian-speaking southeast.
