Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro - Sputnik International

"President Barack Obama, representing the US imperialist elite, has personally decided to take on the task of defeating my government and intervening in Venezuela to control it," Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said Monday in a televised national address.

"That's why they have taken today's measure," Maduro said following the US' imposition of sanctions against seven of the country's officials.

The US also declared Venezuela a threat to its national security.
